27th February 2023: Self Portraits
At the start of the term the children created self-portraits by looking at the details of their faces in a mirror and then drawing themselves.
This is a great time of year to introduce activities that enhance each child’s self-identity, and art is a universal medium for a child’s expression of self.
The children created their self-portrait by looking in the mirror to observe and study their eyes, nose, mouth and the rest of their face to work out how it all fits together.
They used their fine motor skills to draw basic body shapes and experimented and explored with different media and materials.
They have also been discovering self-portraits of famous artists that are displayed in the Culture Area.
