Well, it seems like many of us have been feeling under the weather during the past few weeks and as students and teachers have needed time to recuperate, we’ve had to adapt and make some small changes to the day. However, students have still been busy working and creating, demonstrating their skills and building their understanding.

We have recently met to provide information about our annual snow trip which brings together students from Cycles 3 to 6. This year our team is made up of Sarah-Jane, who has been going on the snow trip for the last six years, Alex Dillon who is a snow instructor, and Noemi Ventajou who was born in France and is very familiar with snow!

We have also just completed a week of exams. Students In Cycles 5 and 6 have tackled a variety of questions in a short time frame while students in Cycle 3 have been working on their contribution to the Night of the Notables.

Our whole school joined together at the Brighton Campus for a fantastic Founders Day celebration. Although the strong winds meant we couldn’t set up the inflatables, everyone had a great time with games and carnival activities like clown heads and the ring toss. Staff busily made popcorn, snow cones and fairy floss which were big hits with the kids. It was a fun-filled day for everyone from 3- year-old Kinder to Year 12!

Our HUB kitchen has been very busy. Students in Cycle 6 had an incursion with Andre the chef, who guided them as they created authentic Spanish cuisine. Café has been very popular on Tuesdays. The chocolate cake I sampled was amazing and the pasta was very filling. There’s lots of great food for cold weather.

We’ve kicked off Term 2 with tremendous energy and enthusiasm! Each cycle has been buzzing with activity and learning.

Cycle 3 students are eagerly preparing for a production of The Lorax 2.0, that embraces its timeless message to advocate for nature. We have recently enjoyed a stall with products based on the pumpkins from the garden and Anzac biscuits were also made and shared. Students are now starting to think about time at camp Rumbug.

Cycle 4 students embarked on an exhilarating adventure to Mount Arapiles, scaling its heights under the expert guidance of Glenn Marston, a revered figure in the global climbing community. Also, last week some students indulged their creative side at an inspiring art workshop.

Cycle 5 students delved into a City Experience, exploring a myriad university and TAFE prospects. Their also enjoyed some diverse cultural encounters — from culinary delights to the thrill of rock climbing.

Cycle 6 students forged stronger bonds surrounded by the picturesque landscapes of Phillip Island and while engaging in beach strolls, paddleboarding, go-karting and surfing. Even amidst the excitement, they diligently focused on their studies, with some preparing for their final Italian exams.

As we gear up for assessments and presentations at Brighton, our students are fully immersed in honing their skills and knowledge. From crafting film portfolios to mastering scripts, refining dramatic talents and expanding academic prowess across various subjects, our focus is steadfast.

Excitement continues to mount for our upcoming 50th anniversary celebrations, a testament to our journey of growth and achievement.

Brighton Campus has had a great start to the year.  When I think back over the highlights of the last few weeks they have been the Information Night and welcome drinks for parents. Both events were a great chance for parents to mingle with teachers and each other, building that sense of community and teamwork. We have also introduced our Cycle leaders: Albertine for Cycle 3, Neil for Cycle 4, Julian for Cycle 5, and Kyle who is leading Cycle 6.

We have already had some excursions, incursions and activities. The MCP students had a blast tackling an escape room, and our Cycle 3 classes developed their skills during a hockey incursion.

At lunchtime there has been lots of activity. Some Cycle 4 students took their remote-control devices for a spin at Hurlingham Park. Cycle 3s have also been making great use of the Hurlingham park playground, enjoying the big swing and a change of venue at lunchtime. Others have stayed on-site, building cubbies in the bush or playing soccer on the new pitch. The seems to be a popular place for sitting, chatting or reading.

Over the last weeks we have also faced some challenges, like scorching hot days and a wild storm that left a mess. But our students handled it like champs, showing resilience and adaptability. They took unexpected situations in their stride, proving that the Brighton Campus community is ready for anything.

Now that our new students and staff have settled in, the groundwork has been laid to set us up for an exciting and successful academic journey at Brighton Campus. Get ready for more fun ahead!
