Harmony Day Parade

Event Details

Everyone is encouraged to wear orange, or come in cultural dress on Thursday, 21 March.

As Harmony Day quickly approaches, we would like to continue its valuable sentiment: Everyone belongs. At MMS, we are fortunate to have families from all over the world, from different backgrounds and ethnicities. We take pride in being an inclusive community that respects the unique background of every member of our community.

One of the many wonderful aspects of Montessori education is the ability to let the child lead. As Maria Montessori said, “The absorbent mind is indeed a marvellous gift to humanity! By merely ‘living’ and without any conscious effort the individual absorbs from the environment even a complex cultural achievement like language. If this essential mental form existed in the adult, how much easier would our studies be!”. Children take pride in sharing something as simple as a language, dance, food, and even art that is unique to them with their classmates. Harmony Day on March 21st is a great time to share these special parts of themselves. However, even more special than that is that every child learns something new, something that might inspire them to conduct wonderful research, pick up a new instrument, or learn a new language. How beautiful is that?

Orange is the colour chosen to represent Harmony Day. Traditionally, orange signifies social communication and meaningful conversations. It also relates to the freedom of ideas and the encouragement of mutual respect. This year, on Thursday 21st March, we ask everyone to wear something orange or come in cultural dress. Additionally, the children will be welcomed to participate in a parade (starting at 9am), celebrating the diversity that enriches our beautiful community at MMS. The students could showcase their flags or artwork during the parade.
