Our Cycle 2 (third year students) had an amazing time at Camp ADANAC in Yarra Junction. They enriched their friendships with plenty of laughter while enjoying activities such as canoeing, low ropes, beach volleyball, a nature walk, the GaGa pit, trampoline, soccer and flying fox. The rain didn’t matter as students had so much fun with their friends. They built wonderful memories with some students asking: “Can we stay in Cycle 2 forever?”
However, emotions were mixed as our Cycle 2 students gathered in the drizzling rain ahead of their first MMS camp experience. The camp is their first transition activity that challenges students to step outside their comfort zone and spend a night at camp with the other Year 3 MMS students. The camp site itself is stunning with rolling hills, majestic mountains and camp activities set within the spectacular Australian bush. We were fortunate as we were given windows of clear sky and didn’t need to adjust any programs, despite the weather warnings throughout the week.
At camp, the children split into their rooms and had time to connect before embarking on an afternoon of activities that challenged the children to work together and rely on each other. By 6.00 pm, the children were in pyjamas and ready for dinner before settling down for a movie. The next day brought time for shared activities, laughter and exploration.
It was wonderful to see the children become closer through the shared experience of camp. They were already looking forward to their next camp.
