Magical Moulin Rouge! The Musical

27/11/2023

The Theatre Making Occupation group went to see Moulin Rouge! The Musical to experience firsthand a magical production. It was probably one of the most amazing theatrical performances I have ever seen.

We went to the Regent Theatre in the city where we were surrounded by singing and dancing. The highlight for me was the costumes and the different colours and textures. When we first entered the theatre it was bright red with flashing lights, a big elephant and, of course, a red windmill.

We admired the set as it was incredible and beautifully made. The theatre itself was amazing. The walls and even the roof were covered in little details and it was incredible.

Rehearsals combine hard work and fun

13/11/2023

In the Occupation Theatre Making group, we have recently started Saturday afternoon rehearsals at Melbourne Montessori College.

We have to rehearse the lines of each scene and in every rehearsal, we block approximately one scene and then go back and revise it later. When we are not doing that we work on making the set, costumes, and sound equipment.

It’s tiring, but we have a lot of fun doing the work and thinking about the finished results. We just had our first rehearsal and it was great. The only down side was that Julian said he would bring donuts — but he sadly let us down. We got a lot of work done during our first rehearsal and we were very busy, but it was all worth it.

During rehearsals, we also work on our movement and where we are going to be placed on the stage. We focus on our facial expressions and learning how to project our voice. Sometimes we also try to figure out what Julian’s jokes mean that he adds to the script!

We are all very excited to continue working on the play and we are all progressing in confidence.
