Boldly go where snow man has gone before…
During the recent school snow sports trip to Mt Buller, students had an unforgettable adventure filled with daily lessons and an opportunity to build their confidence on the majestic mountain slopes. While it wasn’t the most exceptional snow season on record, Mt Buller remained a prime destination and offered us a wide range of slopes suitable for all skill levels.
The students had a fantastic experience on the slopes. For beginners, the gentle green runs down Bourke St and ABOM were an ideal starting point, allowing them to grasp the basics of skiing and snowboarding while gaining their footing on the snow. More experienced students found excitement on the faster runs like the Family Run and Skyline, where they could test their speed and technique.
Challenges beckoned on the black runs down the Summit and Howqua, providing advanced skiers and snowboarders with a chance to demonstrate their prowess on the steeper terrain. Despite the less-than-ideal snow conditions, students eagerly tackled these runs, showcasing their determination and skills.
The accommodation at the University Ski Club added another layer of comfort and luxury to the trip. Situated amidst the stunning landscape, the Club lounge offered panoramic views of the Great Dividing Range, allowing students to unwind and soak up the beauty of their surroundings. The fully stocked kitchen ensured that meals were prepared with ease, with all students having the opportunity to show their flare in the kitchen.
Entertainment was in plentiful supply as the accommodation boasted a pool room where students could relax and engage in some friendly competition after a thrilling day on the slopes. The convenience of the University Ski Club’s location couldn’t be overlooked — it was a short two-minute stroll from the Bourke St ski lift. This meant students had easy access to the heart of the skiing action with minimal transit time and maximising their time on the mountain. Our group was hosted by the USC’s brilliant Lodge Manager, Sally, who made sure our group had everything we needed.
A special HUGE thanks to our parent volunteers, Yann Jourdan and Koray Gencal, and to MMS staff member, Sarah-Jane Watson, who ensured everyone stayed safe and happy during the trip.
The snow sports trip left a lasting impression on the students. They improved their skiing and snowboarding skills through daily lessons and forged memories of conquering slopes, overcoming challenges, and of enjoying the camaraderie of the mountain community. Mt Buller’s enchanting landscapes, exhilarating runs and excellent accommodation made for a remarkable experience that will be cherished for years to come.
