On Monday, 21 August the Year 9s and 10s went on an excursion to Parliament House in the city. Throughout Term 3, the year 10s have participated in the Goldstein Youth Forum.
This forum was introduced by politician, Zoe Daniel, to raise awareness of the most important issues experienced by students of our age and generation. The Year 10s gathered together from different schools and were put in small groups to discuss key issues including mental health, academic stress, social media and its effect on the younger generation, relationships and friendships, drug and alcohol abuse, and various forms of discriminations. We had to discuss these issues in depth and come up with some solutions.
At Parliament, we got the opportunity to propose and discuss our topic for 10 minutes to Zoe Daniel MP and the other student groups. Afterwards, we got together to debate the most important issue out of all the topics we had discussed. This would help Parliament to know what to focus on to support and understand the younger generation.
This was an amazing opportunity for us to be heard by Government and to address issues that are important to our generation.
