Book Week 2023

By 11/09/2023No Comments

This year’s Book Week at MMS was a LOT of fun. Students and staff dressed up as an amazing array of characters — from Ruby Red Shoes and the Highway Rat to Bluey, Harry Potter and a whole lot more.

During the week, students enjoyed listening to guest readers, learned a lot about the art of writing and storytelling during some author visits and, of course, how can we forget the fantastic red carpet parade at both campuses?

Zeno Sworder author visit

At MMS, we had a very engaging session with Zeno on Tuesday, 22  August. We learned how to be authors and illustrators in a very simple way! Zeno’s book, My Strange Shrinking Parents won the Book of the Year prize that is awarded each year by the Children’s Book Council of Australia.

Beginning with his own childhood as the son of immigrant parents, Zeno Sworder’s session with students was a celebration of creativity as a way to express yourself and to make sense of the world around you. It was about creativity being a positive and magical force that connects us to other hearts and other imaginations across time and space. Highlighting his latest book, My Strange Shrinking Parents, this was an engaging session about embracing the things that make us who we are and it set the young audience off on their own creative adventures in drawing and storytelling.

Thanks to the parent volunteers for running the Book Fair so smoothly and efficiently.
