The Djembe Club has been learning about the origins of this West African instrument and testing its ability to send messages outdoors.
It was great fun performing and relaying rhythms from one side of the campus to the other using the djembe. We also made great use of the new rock ‘amphitheatre’ near the sandpit. In a moment of spontaneity, the children invented a rhythm ‘Grow Baby Fern’ which they played to the budding tree ferns. The Djembe Club members were then delighted to discover that, perhaps thanks to the music making, that the baby tree ferns grew over the Easter holidays!
The Djembe Club runs every Thursday at Caulfield Campus at 8.00 am.
